The pre-orders for the BMW i8 have been taking place in the European markets since autumn 2013 after its official world debut at 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show but the good news is that the production is soon to begin from June 2014. Since the development and completion work of the BMW Group Plant in Leipzig is at its peak so is the launch of the BMW i8. Though the deliveries of the car will commence from European markets but it will soon be available worldwide.
An extra effort has been performed by the BMW engineers by further improving the drive performance and fuel consumption data. With the powertrain concept BMW eDrive in-plug configuration, the i8 combines 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.4 seconds with EU test cycle average fuel consumption of 2.1 liters per 100 km.
Further the focus has been made on the low fuel consumption on everyday basis which shows that there is improvement in not only the standardized testing procedures but also in practical everyday life. The BMW i8 with full charged battery can return the fuel consumption below 5 liter per 100km around the town. While in extra-urban or motorway drive, less than 7 liters are achievable. And even at higher speeds, the fuel consumption would still be maintained to less than 8 liters per 100 km. this shows that the fuel consumption of BMW is better than all the available conventionally powered sports cars models.
This model will also be the first car to have the laser lighting technology which will provide 30 percent more energy-efficient lights than the standard BMW and will provide a higher road illumination with a range of 600 meters.
