Rowan Atkinson, best known as Mr. Bean, made millions of people laugh their lungs out, must be sitting at home smiling, as he made one of Britain’s biggest car deals ever. The Hollywood actor bought McLaren F1 in 1997 for £640,000 and managed to earn a huge profit of £7.3 million on this sale. I am quite sure, anyone who is planning to sell his car, after reading this news would pray to get such a good buyer.
Mr. Bean kept this supercar for 18 years and travelled nearly 40,000 miles in his beloved McLaren F1. It was October 1999 when Rowan wrecked his luxury car by hitting the back of a Rover Metro. The second time he totally wrecked his ride in 2011, the engine flew 60 feet away from the scene and it turned out to be the Britain’s highest ever single car insurance payout.
The world’s fastest non-turbocharged supercar carries a 6.1 liter V12 engine that produces 627 bhp, enables McLaren F1 to go from 0 to 60mph in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240mph. Only 64 of McLaren F1 were produced and at that time it was the fastest street-legal car. Probably, the limited quantity and a celebrity car might be the reasons the buyer considered when paying such a huge amount for it.
