Mercedes Benz UK now offers better fuel economy with the introduction of all new Eco models to A-class and B-Class ranges, 180 CDI Eco SE that is designed to deliver high efficiency with low CO2 emission, 92 g/km. The Eco SE models will hit the dealership from January 2014 and both the vehicles will feature weight saving techniques, improved fuel efficiency without sacrificing the performance, refined powertrains and improved driving dynamics. Both vehicles get a manual transmission with longer higher gear ratios, a lightweight fuel tank for weight reduction and increased energy recuperation system. The CO2 emission of the vehicles has been reduced by 6% and 9% to 92 g/km and 98 g/km respectively. The performance of the vehicles in terms of power, torque and acceleration from 0-60 mph remains unchanged. The combined fuel economy of the vehicles is 78.5 mpg (A) and 74.3 mpg (B).
The biggest plus point of these vehicles is both are free from road tax and for the A-Class the company car tax band is just 13% with qualification for 100% capital allowance till 2015. Moreover, both A-Class and B-class ECO SE models comes equipped with advanced four wheel drive system from 2014, the system that was first offered to the CLA 250 4MATIC. The system ensures optimum driving dynamics and traction in different types of road conditions. The 4MATIC system distributes torque ideally between front and rear axles with the help of an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-disc clutch features variable torque distribution that allows 50% power to be sent to the rear wheels. AMG Sport and Engineered by AMG trim the A 250 4MATIC is offered whereas B220 4MATIC is offered in Sport trim. The A-Class 180 CDI Eco SE is priced from £21,965 OTR (On the road) and the B-Class 180 CDI Eco SE is priced from £22,950 OTR.
