2014 Cadillac ELR Specifications, Prices and Pictures – The Best Luxury Plug-in Hybrid of the Year

ELR is an all-new coupe from the American luxury automobile manufacturer, Cadillac. Presented for the first time in 2009 at NAIAS, the mass production and sales of this car were initiated in late 2013, while modeled as 2014. Since its launch, the car has collected much appreciation from the global markets. Today, I’m going to spotlight and rate the basic features of this luxury coupe.

Powertrain (Rating: 7 out of 10)

The 2014 Cadillac ELR is powered with a 1.4 liter EcoFLEX LUU four-cylinder gasoline engine assisted by a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. These specs make ELR a lightweight hybrid car with a nice fuel economy of 98 MPG in cities, while up to 135 MPG on highways. However, it can still make up to 172 km/h top speed. The low-spec engine is capable of producing 84 horsepower at 4800 rpm and a torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. The CVT Voltec 4ET50 multi-mode electric transaxle brings on effortless and continuous automatic gear transmission. As being a hybrid machine, it has no issues to run on battery up till 100 km/h.

Cadillac always brings something exciting in the design department and ELR is no different. It has a pioneering overall appearance with a tweak of Cadillac’s traditional look. The extended front and back lamps with a streak of small LEDs on the outer side are an exquisite development at Cadillac’s garage, which can also be seen in the CTS versions. The ELR is classified as a compact car with a two-door coupe body style. The interior is spacious and comfortable with premium class luxury features, such as, 20 seating adjustments, CUE2 infotainment system, BOSE Active Noise Cancellation, Mood-Setting Ambient light, automatic cup-holder cover and power on display.

Price (Rating: 8 out of 10)

The specified net price for the 2014 Cadillac ELR is $67,500, while the tax amount addition of $7,500 takes the MRSP to $75,000. However, you would have to pay an extra amount of $995 to acquire this luxury coupe earlier than the delivery period. Although $75,995 is an expensive deal for a 1.4 liter 2-door coupe, the added features are worth it.
